Hi, I'm Katrina
I grew up in Eastern Europe and cook in London. I have spent ten years photographing food for other people and I now spend most of my time cooking it for you.
I grew up in Eastern Europe, in a kitchen I was not especially useful in. My grandmother cooked constantly, chaotically and without any recipes. And I did what most children do: I ate everything, learned nothing, and assumed it would always be there...
I came to London and became a food photographer. For ten years I have made other people's food and drinks look their best: campaigns, packaging, cookbooks, the kind of pictures that make you hungry at a bus stop. It is a dream job, and I am good at it. But there is a strange thing that happens when you spend a decade photographing food you did not cook... eventually you want to cook it.
So I did. I took the Essential Cooking Course at Leiths, which gave me the technique, and then spent a long time cooking my way backwards into the food I had grown up around, and sideways into everything else I'd spent a decade photographing but never actually made.
What I make now sits somewhere between those two places. Beetroot and dill and pickles, yes, but also whatever is in season and can be on the table by eight. I do not do restriction, cleanses, or the language of earning your food. I think the healthiest thing most of us could do is cook more often and enjoy it more, and everything I publish here is built on that.
I photograph and shoot everything on this site myself. If you want to work together, that is over here.
